SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
A typical woman in Europe owns at least a dozen different bras but uses only a handful of them. The other poor bras are hiding in a drawer and never see the daylight. They’re not comfy. They look sad after washing. Or they’re simply not cool.
The single most sustainable thing we can do is to change all that and never, ever produce a drawer sleeper. Stuff that stays in the drawer is waste. We focus on clothes you want to wear all the time. And we use amazing materials to ensure they will last for years.
Good, but far from enough. Closely aims to set a new standard for sustainability in this whole category and that demands a lot of real action. Now.
here’s how we minimise Closely’s impact on the planet.
And it’s only the beginning.
We’re the first fashion company in the world who calculates the carbon footprint for each and every garment and makes it public (you’ll find those numbers in the product pages). It’s a complicated process and we use an independent consultancy to guarantee a trustworthy result. It’s important because it helps us measure our progress over time. And hopefully it will inspire other companies to do the same. Then you’ll be able to compare and choose what’s really best for the planet.

* Closely has been a carbon neutral company from the start. (We don't know any other fashion company who can say the same.) We offset our CO2 emissions in the best and most serious climate compensation project we’ve come across because it’s better than not doing it. But it’s only one step on our way towards zero emissions.

* A concentrated, and totally transparent supply chain is key. We have found a long term manufacturing partner who shares our sustainable ambition. We use only two factories, both in the same region in Sri Lanka. We produce as many fabrics as possible in Sri Lanka to avoid transportation (this share will increase rapidly) but we also source materials from selected producers in China.
We have a very high share of recycled yarn in our clothes. Those fibers are 20-40% more expensive than standard qualities but we think it’s worth the cost. You can see exactly how much recycled material there is in each garment when you go to the product pages. (Usually 40-80%).
About 70% of our fabrics and elastics are Bluesign approved. This is a global standard that combines air and water emissions, the use of chemicals and human rights under one umbrella. It guarantees that approved products and production processes are not harmful to people or the environment.
work in progress
here are three things we work on right now:
1. source more fabrics next to our factories.
2. add recycled material to our sports fabrics.
3. find a beautiful and sustainable velvet quality.
